Website Guidelines

  • Keep it simple! Your site does not have to be elaborate. Information is always the most critical component.
  • Backgrounds, if used at all, should be solid colors or have only minimal, dim patterns & stay consistent throughout your site. This helps your visitors know they are still on your site.
  • Use strong, contrasting colors for text and headings. For example: Light blue text on medium blue background can be very difficult to read.
  • Always the best: black text on white background.
  • Fonts are very limited in this Blackboard Web Community Manager, this provides consistency across all sites in the District.
  • ALWAYS describe your photo or image in the "alternative text" block. This provides a brief description of your photo or image for those who have difficulty seeing a screen or those who can't see and are using a screen reader. If your image is purely decorative, be sure to put that in your description or use double quotation marks. ADA Compliance requires this so screen readers used by those with visual disabilities can access your information as comprehensively as possible.
  • Don't overwhelm visitors with animations and pictures.
  • Don't forget to SAVE.
  • It's better to build a new page rather than make your Home Page too long. If you can scroll for more than two screens worth of information your page is too long!
  • Each School has a Webmaster or Tech Coach that you can contact for assistance with your website editing. For a list of who to contact at your site for help Click HERE.
  • Or you can use the Email link on the main Help Page for help with a problem.
