Students in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing class recently dove into the world of branding by reviewing logo design strategies and putting their knowledge to the test with a fun, competitive activity: The Logo Game.
Logos are more than just images—they are the face of a brand. A strong logo helps companies connect with consumers, build recognition, and stand out in today’s crowded marketplace. From the swoosh on a shoe to the golden arches on a burger wrapper, logos create instant connections that influence what people buy and how they feel about a brand.
To better understand this concept, students examined how professional sports teams, entertainment companies, and global brands use color, shape, and style to send a message through their logos. They then applied their knowledge by playing The Logo Game, where they identified famous brands based only on their logos. The activity challenged students to recognize design elements and sparked conversations about why certain logos are timeless while others fade away.
“This was a great way for students to see how powerful a simple image can be,” said Heather Monks, Sports and Entertainment Marketing instructor. “Logos carry a lot of weight in shaping a brand’s identity and reputation, and this activity helped students connect classroom learning with real-world marketing strategies.”
Through hands-on experiences like this, students gain valuable insight into the marketing strategies used by the world’s biggest sports and entertainment brands—preparing them to think like marketers and innovators in their future careers.
