Students in Coach Monks’ high school Fundamentals of Technology class recently had a unique opportunity to learn from two accomplished guest speakers, Bridget Kurr and Tenille Smith. Both are respected cybersecurity professionals, educators, researchers, and digital investigators committed to making the online world safer through education and collaboration.
During their presentation, Kurr and Smith engaged students in real-world discussions about cybersecurity, coding, and how to recognize phishing attempts and potential digital threats. They emphasized the importance of vigilance in today’s interconnected world and encouraged students to think critically about their online presence and technology use.
The session not only introduced students to essential cybersecurity practices but also provided valuable insight into how technology applies to everyday life and future careers. Their main message was clear: building a safer digital world starts with shared knowledge and thoughtful action.
Coach Monks expressed his gratitude for the presentation, noting how impactful it was for students to hear directly from professionals working in the field. “Bringing in experts like Bridget and Tenille helps our students see the real-world applications of what we study in class,” he said. “It shows them that technology is more than just theory—it’s a powerful tool that can both create opportunities and present challenges.”
The visit served as an inspiring reminder of the importance of digital literacy and the role today’s students will play in shaping a safer, smarter technological future.
