This weekend, Ponca City High School will proudly host the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils (OASC) State Convention, welcoming around 1,600 students and advisors from across Oklahoma to the Ponca City community. The event, taking place November 1-3, is one of the largest Student Council conventions in the country.
Delegates will experience an exciting lineup of workshops led by student groups from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, as well as an elaborate production coordinated by Po-Hi students and staff. In addition, three nationally known speakers will take the stage to inspire and motivate attendees to lead and serve in their schools and communities.
Throughout the weekend, students will participate in breakout sessions featuring both local and statewide community service organizations, giving them a chance to learn more about leadership through action and collaboration.
Hosting an event of this scale takes incredible community support, and Ponca City has stepped up in a big way. Local businesses, organizations, and volunteers have come together to help provide food, drinks, and other essentials to make this weekend possible. Volunteers are also giving their time and skills to help celebrate student leadership with the 134 schools attending from across the state.
Residents are encouraged to give a warm Wildcat welcome to the many visitors in town this weekend. With nearly 1,600 students and advisors attending, the convention is expected to bring a welcome boost to Ponca City’s hotels, restaurants, and local businesses—especially as delegates head out on Sunday evening to enjoy dinner across the community.
