The 8th grade Student Council enjoyed a special lunch at the Ponca City Board of Education building today, where they met with Superintendent Adam Leaming and Board Member Anna Roland to share what they learned at the recent state Student Council Convention in Poteau. The students were led at the convention by Susie Schatz and Kennedy Harmon.
Over pizza, students discussed the highlights of their trip, including a session on how active listening plays a key role in effective leadership. They also shared that one of their favorite activities was interviewing other students and guest speakers about what leadership means to them.
Superintendent Leaming encouraged the students to let the lessons from the convention inspire them to “think big” and take an active role in helping lead Ponca City. He also invited them to share ideas and suggestions for improvements they would like to see across the district.
The luncheon served as a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on their experience, celebrate what they learned, and continue developing as young leaders in Ponca City Public Schools.
