Ponca City Student Performs in Prestigious All-State Choir Conducted by Jake Runestad

Ponca City, OK — Sydney Meeker, a senior at Ponca City High School, recently represented Ponca City Public Schools at the 2026 Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) All-State Mixed Choir, held in Tulsa on January 22.

The All-State Choir brings together the finest high school vocalists from across Oklahoma through a rigorous audition process. This year’s ensemble was conducted by acclaimed American composer and conductor Jake Runestad, who is known internationally for his inspiring choral works and collaborations with leading ensembles.

Sydney not only earned a position in the highly selective choir but was also chosen as a soloist for “The Prow” by Matthew Lyon Hazzard—an exceptional honor that highlights outstanding vocal skill and musical expression.

“Being selected for All-State is one of the highest honors a high school singer can achieve,” said Chad Keilman, choir director at Ponca City High School. “We are incredibly proud of Sydney for her hard work, dedication, and passion for music.”

Sydney joined more than 208 of the state’s most talented vocalists to rehearse and study advanced choral repertoire under Runestad’s direction throughout the OkMEA convention weekend.

Participation in the All-State Choir not only highlights individual talent but also strengthens Oklahoma’s long tradition of excellence in vocal music education.
