Ponca City DECA recently attended the Oklahoma DECA Career Development Conference in Oklahoma City. The conference brought together DECA members from across the state to compete in events focused on marketing, entrepreneurship, and finance.
The Ponca City DECA Chapter was one of only 500 chapters internationally, and one of just two in Oklahoma, to earn the Thrive Level Award for community service and chapter promotions. This award recognizes chapters that make a significant impact in preparing emerging leaders for college and career success.
Ponca City DECA brought home the following competitive event awards:
Sales Project: 1st place – Zelie Decke, Scarlett Gilian, Bella Morrison
Financial Literacy Project: 2nd place – Kyler Cox
Restaurant and Food Service Management: 3rd place – Bella Morrison
Community Awareness Project: 5th place and state finalist – Meredith Leavell, Katy Jo Johnson, Harper Clark
Liam Taylor and Titus Haney were selected from the Oklahoma DECA delegation to attend the Emerging Leader Series in Atlanta, Georgia, which helps students develop skills in collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity. Kyler Cox, chapter president, also accepted the National DECA Thrive Award on behalf of the Ponca City Chapter, recognizing accomplishments in community service and DECA promotion.
Also attending the State Career Development Conference were Hayly Cabrales, Madalyn Alvarez, Mallory George, and Gracie George, all of whom have applied to attend the DECA National Leadership Conference and are awaiting results.
The Ponca City DECA Chapter also received the Silver Level Oklahoma DECA State Award, the second-highest award recognizing excellence in membership, community service, and overall chapter performance.
Along with advisor Heather Monks, these students will attend the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta this April.
