Ponca City High School, in partnership with the Ponca City Development Authority, successfully hosted its first Senior Career Day on April 15, 2026, at City Central, providing seniors with a meaningful and engaging opportunity to explore future career pathways and build essential professional skills.

The event brought together students, local businesses, and community leaders for a dynamic day of hands-on learning, career exploration, and networking. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., seniors were welcomed with a light breakfast before splitting into two customized experiences based on their interests.

During the morning session, students either participated in industry tours across Ponca City or attended a series of professional development breakout sessions. Industry tours offered firsthand exposure to local career opportunities in STEM/Engineering, Trades/Manufacturing, Education/Business, and Retail/Food Services. Students visited sites such as City Engineering, Log10 Microbiology Lab, Century Products, WT Architecture, and several local businesses, gaining insight into real-world work environments.

Students who remained onsite engaged in interactive breakout sessions led by professionals from across the region. Topics included stress management, personal finance, high-demand careers in Oklahoma, resume building and interview skills, workforce development, study habits for college, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in the workplace. These sessions provided practical tools to help students confidently navigate their post-secondary plans.

All seniors reconvened for a catered lunch, where they participated in table discussions with local industry representatives, allowing for valuable networking and mentorship opportunities. The afternoon continued with a series of keynote presentations, including an overview of the Ponca City economy, a message on preparing for the future from Superintendent Adam Leaming, and an engaging presentation from Ponca City Chamber of Commerce Chief Operating Officer Shelley Arrott focused on standing out in today’s workforce.

The day concluded with mock interviews, giving students the chance to practice professional communication skills and receive real-time feedback from community partners.

In addition to the day’s learning experiences, students had the opportunity to win multiple prizes provided by the Ponca City Development Authority. Northern Oklahoma College also awarded four scholarships to participating seniors, further supporting students as they take their next steps beyond high school.

Senior Career Day reflects Ponca City High School’s commitment to preparing students for life beyond graduation by connecting education with real-world experiences. Through strong community partnerships, the event provided students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in college, careers, and beyond.

A sincere thank you to the many volunteers and local businesses who generously gave their time and expertise to invest in our students’ futures. We extend special appreciation to the Ponca City Development Authority for their leadership, partnership, and continued commitment to making this impactful experience possible.
