Ponca City Public Schools is proud to announce that Heather Monks, Marketing Education Teacher and DECA Advisor at Ponca City High School, has been named the 2026 ACTE Carl Perkins Community Service Award National Finalist by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE).
This prestigious national recognition honors outstanding career and technical education teachers at the middle and secondary levels who demonstrate innovation in the classroom, a deep commitment to students, and a lasting impact on their schools and communities.
With a career spanning over 25 years, Heather Monks has made an indelible mark on students, colleagues, and the greater Ponca City community. Since 2000, Monks has served as the Marketing Education teacher and DECA advisor at Ponca City High School, dedicating her entire teaching career to preparing students for success in business, leadership, and life.
Monks is widely recognized for her emphasis on community engagement and service learning. She intentionally connects classroom instruction with real-world experiences, partnering with local organizations to give students hands-on opportunities that foster empathy, leadership, and civic responsibility. Her students not only gain valuable career skills but also develop a strong sense of service to their community.
Beyond the classroom, Monks leads by example through her extensive volunteer work. She volunteers through her church, serves as a certified Special Olympics coach, participates in PTA, and supports school activities as a homeroom parent and volunteer. Her involvement reinforces the importance of service as a lifelong commitment.
Within the school, Monks serves as the Career Tech Department Head, mentoring fellow CTE educators and promoting collaboration and excellence. She also advises the National Technical Honor Society, recognizing and supporting high-achieving career and technical education students.
Whether she’s guiding students through community service initiatives or supporting colleagues through mentorship, Heather Monks exemplifies the spirit of education that extends far beyond the classroom. Her legacy is defined by strong relationships, meaningful learning experiences, and a lifelong dedication to empowering others through service.
The national finalists were announced at the ACTE Awards Gala on December 9 at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The gala recognized top CTE educators from across the country.
Ponca City Public Schools congratulates Heather Monks on this well-deserved national honor and thanks her for her continued dedication to students, colleagues, and the Ponca City community.
